What we are doing?
There really are a lot of them, and choosing the best one is a matter of subjective preference. And here everyone has his own criteria. Some people prefer official applications, some prefer third-party ones, and for some users the web interface is optimal.
If it weren’t for social apps and various web-based resources, I don’t know what I would do to keep in touch with my loved ones when sometimes there is no way to reach someone by mail or with a regular phone, because in this case it would really be expensive.
